How To Fix Ring On Disk

I'm pretty sure they won't replace it, and there's no way of fixing it really. You can try the toothpaste trick, but there's a chance it won't work. Unlucky.

That's very strange if it just did it sporadically. Did you by any chance, knock it, or move it in any way? The new slims can damage discs if you move your console while it's spinning.

You either moved your console while it was running or there's something wrong with your disc drive. Try watching a cheap DVD in your xbox and see if that gets scratched too. If it does and you haven't moved the console, then call support and book in a console repair.

Your best option for fixing the disc itself would be to take it to your local movie rental store. Most of them have those high-end cleaning machines and will let you use them for a small fee, about five bucks or so. Those high end machines use an ultra fine grade polish, which not only cleans the surface but will fill in any serious gouges.

I was not home at the time so I have no idea what really happened. Does the professional polishing normally work though? I would give that a shot for sure if it does.

It depends on how deep the gouges are in the disc. The actual data is on a thin layer between the plastic underside and the label, so the plastic bit can get scratched without causing any permanent damage to the data. When it gets polished a small amount of the plastic bit gets removed, so any shallow scratches disappear. In those pro machines they also apply a layer of some sort of ultra fine grain polish...type...stuff. This fills in some of the deeper scratches, but there is a limit to what can be done. Going by personal experiance it's worth it to get them done by the rental shops, even if it does cost a few bucks. Far better than those home kits anyway!

I did that (on my old white xbox) the day i got Black Ops....the cat knocked my xbox over & destroyed the disc!

Amazon actually just replaced it for me, event though it wasn't their fault, was just because it was release day i suspect. So if you've recently bought it, you could try it.

The professional option is worth a punt though.  It probably won't work because its not so much a scratch, more of a gouge....but worth a shot if it means you don't have to rebuy (or you could borrow the disc from someone else & copy it to your HD, and just use your own disc to verify you own it when you wanna play if that makes sense).

If all we need is an escape goat, i think we should just let this one go.

Professional cleaning should fix the disc. I worked for Play N Trade and we had those come in all the time. The only time we weren't able to repair it is if it was cracked.
